Ratangad Trek: Conquer the Jewel of the Sahyadri

Perched high in the scenic Kalsubai Harishchandragad Wildlife Sanctuary overlooking the tranquil waters of Arthur Lake (Bhandardara), Ratangad Fort—literally meaning the Jewel of the Forts—is one of Maharashtra's most celebrated trekking destinations. Known for its rich 400-year-old Maratha heritage, ancient rock-cut cisterns, and colossal cliffs, Ratangad offers an unforgettable alpine-like hiking experience in the Western Ghats.

The signature highlight of Ratangad is the geological marvel known as Nedhe (Eye of the Needle)—a massive natural wind-carved aperture in the rock ridge where strong gales sweep through, framing majestic views of surrounding giants like Kalsubai, Alang, Madan, Kulang (AMK), and Ajoba.

FAQs
Where are the pickup locations?
We provide multiple pickup points along major highways in Mumbai (Bhandup, Mankhurd, Vashi, Nerul, Kharghar, Kalamboli) and Pune (Wakad, Chandani Chowk, Katraj). Exact timings are shared in the trek group before departure.
Why trek with With Sakhi?
At With Sakhi, we believe a trek is more than reaching a summit. It is about experiencing Maharashtra’s history, nature, culture, and the people you meet along the trail. Our experienced trek leaders focus on proper coordination, responsible trekking, and creating a memorable experience for every participant. Join us for the Rajgad to Torna Trek from Mumbai or Pune and experience one of Maharashtra’s most iconic fort-to-fort trekking routes.
What is the best time for this trek?
Monsoon and post-monsoon (June to February) are ideal. The Junnar valley turns lush green after the rains and the Manikdoh backwaters are at their most scenic. Stone steps can be slippery in heavy rain, so good trekking shoes are essential.
What do you mean by a "Professional History Guide"?
We believe in “Educational Trekking.” Our guides are history enthusiasts who have studied Raigad in depth – the Rajyabhishek, the town planning of Bazaar Peth, the acoustics of the Nagarkhana and the story of Hiroji Indulkar – and they share it as you walk the fort.
What kind of food should I bring?
Since this is an economical ₹299 station-to-station trek, please carry a packed light lunch, energy snacks (fruits/dry fruits), and at least 2 liters of drinking water.
What should I carry for the trek?
Carry 2–3 litres of water, good-grip trekking shoes, a raincoat or poncho, energy snacks and a valid ID proof. There are no commercial food stalls on either fort, so please carry your own snacks and take all waste back with you.
What do you mean by a "Professional History Guide"?
Our leads provide detailed context about the fort’s strategic value, its Portuguese-era architecture, and its role under Maratha maritime governance.
What is the refund and cancellation policy?
Cancellations made 48 hours prior to the trek date are eligible for a partial refund. Within 48 hours, fees are non-refundable, though you may transfer your slot to a friend.
