Two forts on the Kalsubai range: Aundha with its rock-cut caves and steep final wall, and Patta — known as Vishramgad, the fort where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj rested after the raid on Surat.
About the fort
Patta earned the name Vishramgad — the fort of rest — from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's halt here in 1679. Aundha stands across the ridge, harder and less visited, with caves cut into the rock below its summit block.

What the trek is like
Patta is a steady climb to a broad plateau. Aundha is the tougher of the two, with a steep final section and an exposed traverse where our leaders fix a rope. Groups often do Patta in the morning and decide on Aundha after seeing the rock.

What to carry
Shoes with a firm grip, 2 to 3 litres of water, electrolytes and quick snacks, a cap and sunscreen, a 20 to 30 litre backpack and a torch.
