A sea fort built on a rock island off Malvan, reached by boat. Sindhudurg was Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's naval stronghold, and it holds the only temple in the country dedicated to him.
About the fort
Built between 1664 and 1667 on the island of Kurte, Sindhudurg was the base of the Maratha navy. Its walls are laid directly on the rock, and the handprint and footprint of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj are set in the masonry near the entrance.
