One of the broadest fort plateaus in the Sahyadris, Sudhagad sits above Pali in Raigad with a Bhorai Devi temple, intact wooden wadas and a Mahadarwaja that echoes Raigad's own.

About the fort

Sudhagad, once called Bhorapgad, was among the forts Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj considered for his capital before settling on Raigad. The resemblance is easy to see: the same style of gateway, the same wide plateau, the same commanding view over the Konkan.

What the trek is like

The usual route climbs from Thakurwadi through forest, with a long wooden ladder section partway up that most groups enjoy more than they expect. Above it the path opens onto the plateau and the walk becomes level.
