Overview

A journey to Raigad Fort is never just a weekend trek - it is a pilgrimage into Maratha history. Raigad stands proud not only for its rugged cliffs and dramatic elevation, but as the historic capital where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was crowned. The Raigad Fort Heritage Trail is a guided one-day walk through the capital of Hindavi Swarajya, from the base village of Pachad right up to the Samadhi on the plateau.

The Historic Ascent

The climb follows the traditional stone-cut steps, passing Nane Darwaja and Chitta Darwaja before arriving at the iconic Maha Darwaja - nestled between colossal bastions designed to stay invisible from a distance. In the monsoon, tiny waterfalls cascade down the steps and mist rolls across the bastions, making the ascent a sensory treat.

The Capital Plateau

On top you walk the royal grounds of Holi Cha Mal, stand before the acoustically brilliant Nagarkhana, and step into the Raj Sabha (Durbar) where the historic Rajyabhishek took place, with the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj under the Meghdambari. The trail continues along the double-rowed stone plinths of the ancient Bazaar Peth, on to the serene Jagdishwar Temple with Hiroji Indulkar’s humble inscription, the sacred Samadhi of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and the dramatic cliff edge of Takmak Tok.

FAQs
Who can join the Raigad Fort Heritage Trail?
This is an Easy to Moderate trek suitable for beginners, families, solo travellers and kids aged 10 and above with basic fitness. The ascent is along well-built stone steps, and a ropeway is available for anyone who prefers not to climb.
Where are the pickup locations?
We provide multiple pickup points along major highways in Mumbai (Bhandup, Mankhurd, Vashi, Nerul, Kharghar, Kalamboli) and Pune (Wakad, Chandani Chowk, Katraj). Exact timings are shared in the trek group before departure.
What is the best time to trek Raigad?
Monsoon (June to September) is spectacular - mist rolls across the bastions and small waterfalls run down the steps. Post-monsoon and winter offer clearer panoramic views and comfortable walking conditions. Steps get slippery in heavy rain, so good trekking shoes are essential.
Is the ropeway included in the price?
No. The trek price covers the guided heritage walk, meals and transport. The ropeway is optional and paid directly by anyone who chooses to use it instead of climbing the steps.
What do you mean by a "Professional History Guide"?
We believe in "Educational Trekking." Our guides are history enthusiasts who have studied Raigad in depth - the Rajyabhishek, the town planning of Bazaar Peth, the acoustics of the Nagarkhana and the story of Hiroji Indulkar - and they share it as you walk the fort.
What should I carry for the trek?
Carry 2-3 litres of water, good-grip trekking shoes, a raincoat or poncho, energy snacks and a valid ID proof. Please carry all waste back down with you - Raigad is a protected monument.
What is the refund and cancellation policy?
We have a fixed cancellation policy. If you cancel at least 72 hours before the trek, a partial refund is provided. For last-minute cancellations, a refund is not possible; however, you are welcome to transfer your seat to a friend or family member.
