More and more women in Maharashtra want to explore the Sahyadri, on their own, with friends, or in groups of women. But the same worries keep many of them at home: "Will it be safe?", "Will I be the only woman?", "What if I cannot keep up?" Choosing the right group answers most of these questions. This guide covers women-only and women-friendly treks in Maharashtra: why women choose them, what to check before you book, the best treks to start with, and practical tips for your trek.

Why Women Choose Women-Friendly Trek Groups

  • Safety and comfort: you can relax and enjoy the trek instead of worrying.
  • No pressure on pace: a good group walks at the pace of its slowest member.
  • Easier to come alone: many women join on their own and leave with new friends.
  • Family is at ease: parents and partners worry less when they know the group is well run.
  • Practical needs are understood: washroom stops, changing spaces and safe tent arrangements.

What to Check Before You Book

Whether a trek is women-only or simply women-friendly, ask these questions before you pay:

  • Who leads the trek? Are the leaders experienced, and is there a leader at the back of the group?
  • How big is the group, and how many women usually join?
  • Travel: is transport arranged from your city, and where are the pickup points?
  • Stay: for camping treks, are tents shared only with women, and are there toilets or safe spots nearby?
  • Food: how many meals and snacks are included?
  • Emergency plan: is there a first aid kit, and who can your family call?
  • Reviews: what do other women say about their trek with this group?
