When to go
- Monsoon (June-September): the Maval and Velhe forts near Pune are at their best - waterfalls, mist and green ridges. Rock sections turn slippery, so start with the easier forts.
- Post-monsoon (October-November): green hills with clear views. The best month of the year for long ridge walks like Rajgad to Torna.
- Winter (December-February): dry, cool and ideal for two-day and high treks.
- Summer (March-May): early morning and night treks only, and shorter forts.
